    I’ve been having hip pain – more like a super tightness and it aches at night. I take time off, probably not enough but my question is: was your SI/hip issue causing hip pain? Or some other kind of pain? Also, was this caused (if you had hip pain) by the fracture or the SI problem?

    I use a foam roller every day, stretch, cross train a bunch but at the heart of it, I am a runner. This means I run through this stuff. I’ve had a few “almost” injury brushes that I was able to PT through pretty quickly (piriformis/plantar).

    I am 40 – running for four months seriously.

      My particular situation was caused by weakness in my glutes. Because of this weakness my running form became compromised. As I continued to run, my hips developed an imbalance, then SI Dysfunction, then the stress fracture. However, none of this caused pain, just tightness. I felt like my hips were twisted so much that I could not stand up straight.

      My suggestions for you, A. see a doctor or physical therapist. B. try to lay off it for a while. I know how hard that is, but you don’t want to be me…4 months no running and entire race season gone. Try aqua jogging, swimming or biking to keep the cardio going C. keep up with foam rolling, but try a trigger point or lacrosse ball. It is used on the glutes to release pressure in the hips, glute and groin. Hot yoga has also been a huge help for me. D. integrate abdominal and glute bridges, leg raises, and hip extensions (abduction and adduction) into your cross-training

      Give that a go and let me know if you need anything else.
